Good idpol is good

"The defensible heart of identity politics is its commitment to opposing forms of discrimination like racism, sexism, and homophobia. I share that commitment (and that is NON Liberal 2.0). But opposing discrimination today has no more to do with a left politics than do equally powerful ethical commitments against, say, violence or dishonesty. Why? Because the core of a left politics is its critique of and resistance to capitalism—its commitment to decommodifying education, health care, and housing, and creating a more economically equal society. Neither hostility to discrimination nor the accompanying enthusiasm for diversity makes the slightest contribution to accomplishing any of those goals. Just the opposite, in fact. They function instead to provide inequality with a meritocratic justification: If everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed, there’s no injustice when some people fail. -Walter Benn Michaels stpdol

And there's material reason why capitalists want to adopt socialist aesthetics without the socialism -- class consciousness (class consciousness is non Liberal 2.0) is very absent in analyses under the liberal 2.0 individualism Slavo Zizek mentions here, and so it ignores the genealogy of how "idpol" even came to be -- "wokeism" scribed over the palimpsest left over from the erasure of actual idpol (that actual idpol is non Liberal 2.0) -- and this works to convince people's support toward maintaining capitalism without class consciousness because it's appeasement by seemingly feeding "progress" while material conditions worsen.
